Where to Drink:

As the weather has been chilling, The L00king Glass has been drinking.

Please enjoy our definitive ranking of:

NO 5. Marcelino’s

It’s sultry, it’s sexy, and it has a snazzy Mediterranean vibe. I am a big fan of the Moscow Mules here and appreciate the velvety seating. They also apparently have decent food menu. However, the luxurious mystery that the darkly lit bar seems to be going for is violently undermined by the hideousness of its exterior. It’s hard to enter with a large group and little overly serious to enjoy with a small one. The L00king Glass concludes it’s not worth the venture from College Hill.

Must try: The ‘Rose/ hibiscus.’

NO 4. The Avery

They will warn you that their mezcal tequila is smoky and you should believe them. Do not get the smoky mezcal cocktail. The Avery has a really cosy ambience and lovely fountain to perch by in the summer. It’s a good spot to escape to if you don’t want to bump in to anyone, but there are better bars closer by.

Must try: The ‘St. Avery Cosmopolitan.’

NO 3. Glou

For the go-to chatty night out, the candle lit Ives’ hub is a classic. It’s perfect for a casual catch-up or pre and also has a great outdoor area for larger groups. You will see someone you know on a date. Do not go on a date there yourself.

Must try: The ‘Pink Flamingo.’

Warning: Not the best place to go these days for any readers who for some reason may not feel like showing their ID… especially if said reader is international.

NO.2 The Eddy

I LOVE The Eddy. This is a downtown bar that actually is worth the minor trek. It’s small and intimate, but also has a youthful bustle to it. Their drinks are also a winning combination of extremely tasty and secretly strong.

Must Try: The ‘Autumn Gimlet.’

NO. 1 The Walnut Room

Oh The Walnut Room, I think you are the perfect bar. The cocktails are divine; the staff is really friendly; and it’s just so pretty to be in. The corner location on Main St is the perfect stroll’s length from both campus and the river which makes it the perfect rendezvous spot.

Must Try: The ‘Freeman in Paris.’

For a more casual pub vibe:

  • 1. WikPub: (my home)

  • 2. Wild Colonial: (darts!)

  • 3. The East End. (why don’t people go here more?)

Honourable Mention:

  • Tiny bar: it’s actually so small.

IF YOU ENJOYED THIS WISDOM and would appreciate some extra advice, here is The L00king Glass’s very first ACTUAL MAP to our favorite bars and one’s we still want to try :)

Thank you and, as Baudelaire once said, ‘be continually drunk!’
